Be Your Own Boss: Join our Youth Entrepreneurship Course in Margate

We have launched a collaborative programme pilot alongside The Perfect Place to Grow, aimed at supporting young people on their journey to start a plant-based food or drink business.
Starting in late September 2024, this six-week programme will offer a carefully balanced blend of practical start-up insights, kitchen-based skills training, and holistic wellness support for young people, aged 18 to 24.
Participants will be encouraged to develop sustainable business ideas, focusing on tackling the problem of post-harvest food waste.
With youth unemployment in Thanet (9.3%) and Cliftonville (11.0%) currently sitting around twice the national average (5.0%), the development of entrepreneurial skills in young people in these areas is essential for long-term, sustainable economic and social growth.
The Perfect Place To Grow
The Perfect Place to Grow is perfectly situated in Cliftonville, and already provides not-for-profit, kitchen-based training designed to support local young people.
They provide a welcoming and professional environment in which local young people can learn relevant skills and build confidence within the food supply chain, empowering them to move on to full-time employment. Their "farm to fork" approach supports young people to explore employment opportunities across the food chain. By partnering with us, the programme of support is being expanded to encourage entrepreneurship in addition to meaningful employment.
About The Programme
The Be Your Own Boss programme aims to provide an increased sense of opportunity, prosperity, and wellbeing to young people in Kent & Medway by providing entrepreneurial skills training in a welcoming environment.
The sessions will be designed in collaboration with the young people taking part in the programme, and each week will cover a different aspect of entrepreneurship.
These will include developing low-cost business ideas, understanding target markets, building a brand, financial and social media skills, and running a launch event.
If you, or someone you know, would be interested in participating in the 'Be Your Own Boss' programme, please email hello@theperfectplacetogrow.org by 16th September 2024 and they will send you further details.
